August 2014 – My Top 5 for the month

Welcome to the second installment of my month in review. View July In Review to see what was happening last month. This month has been a blur. I’m sure we all have months like this where it happens so fast.

1. First photo on my phone for the month

Sort of random, I know. My 19 month old has been learning to talk and this article on Facebook caught my eye as well as DIY Toddler Toys. Toddler Approved has so many great ideas.

2. Drama, Drama, Drama

We’ve recently been asked to lead the Drama Department at our church and have been helping the singles ministry prepare for an upcoming event (this month actually). We’ve been in full-blown practice mode one to two nights a week and have dress rehearsal this Saturday. The event is Sept 20th and it’s a walk through play led by a tour guide. The story visitors will be experiencing is that of Apostle Paul. It’s going to be a great. There is of course food and fellowship following. After this we’ll be getting geared up for Christmas!

Here’s a shot of DD in the prop/costume room. She is fascinated with all the fake bread.

3. Twice the birthday celebration – asian style

We celebrated my BIL’s birthday this month – twice actually. On his birthday we ate sushi at one of our favorite local restaurant and DD had some tempura chicken and rice (complete with ketchup of course). By the end of the evening she thought she was a chopstick pro. Not everyone got to make it with us that night, so we celebrated again hibachi style on the weekend. Yay for sushi!

4. Back to school… Back to school…

Whose Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter feed wasn’t flooded with back to school features. Well… It’s back to school for me too. Not only do I work at a university and experienced the excitement of returning students, but I’m back in class this semester as well. This semester I’m taking Web Development (shocking… I know). While I technically work in web development I’ve been self taught and don’t know all the ins and outs. I’m excited to go through this class now that i’ve been working in the field for about five years. It’s going to push me closer to my entrepreneurship goal of developing websites and emails for fellow bloggers and mom & pops.

5. Journey with Essential Oils

I have been using therapeutic grade essential oils from Young Living since April of this year. My household is rather healthy with regard to “getting sick.” I think we can always do something every day to be a little healthier. When my daughter was born I shared the same concern most new moms do in regard to chemicals and poisons in the home. Little did I know so many of these things were in my underneath my kitchen sink and in my medicine cabinet. In August I was able to make steps toward some emotional issues I’ve been having. I treated first with prayer and self reflection and second with essential oils. There will be more to come on this on the blog.
